    The folks were friendly but it might be because I walked in pushing a stroller containing a six month old. I've had their poppyseed kolaches, quite good, not a cloyingly sweet as those from Byerly's. Coffee is good. Selection seems a little thin at times.

    You won't need a lot of restraint here. The times I've been I've been satisfied with one item. I settled on a vanilla cupcake. It was large had a firm chocolate swirl. The whole thing looked stiff, but when you bit in it was very moist, and very manageable. You don't get crumbs all over. The kolaches were too dark for me, you will see them more golden at Kramerczuk's. They had apple bars, and they were the only bars. That's what it is, variety is there but it's only one flavor offered. I saw a couple of sold cakes, that looked very pretty. Maybe it's not a high walk in traffic location. This appears to be where Highland starts and across the street where Mac Groveland ends. This place has Grand Ave. all over it and I'd prefer this over Cupcake.

    I went here once on a weekend quite sometime ago, and they were closed. I went back another time and selected a few pasteries that "looked" good. I wound up with a slick of grease in my mouth after eating some of those "good looking" items. Gross. Won't return. Gosh, how I miss Napolean's Bakery that used to be right up the street from me... French pastries soooo beautiful AND soooo good! Sadly, they had to close after 18 years in business. sniff.

    I would have ordered a cake from you, but only if you kept to the hours printed on your menu handouts and if your clerk could have bothered to crack a smile when I picked up said menu handout.

    I had the lemon tart. It was delicious. The prices aren't cheap, but everything is fresh baked and handmade. Worth it! The baker was taught by an Austrian man.

    This cute bakery was one of my favorites driving in and out of St. Paul for breakfast. They also make custom made wedding cakes (which are gorgeous), and they import their chocolate from Germany. They also sell seasonal gifts/treats. The two ladies that run this place are very sweet and they provide food for St. Patrick's Day next door for Irish Indeed.

    2.5 Stars. I've been in search of good local sweet bakeries (Wuollet's is only good for their cakes) and was hoping La Patisserie would end the search but was sadly left disappointed by the most basic of items: le croissant. I went in at 8:30 am on a week day and there wasn't much offered in the display cases. A few croissants, scones, and some slices of chocolate cake that may have been tempting later in the day but not for breakfast. I decided on a mini croissant, regular size croissant, and chocolate croissant. The croissants were more bread-like in texture than flaky. The regular croissant didn't have much flavor to it; I almost couldn't taste the butter, which is rather sad as that is one of the main ingredients. The chocolate croissant might as well have just been bread with some cheap hershey's chocolate thrown in the middle. No flavor to the chocolate and the "croissant" was thick and almost chewy. My sister liked her mini-croissant, but then again she is 5. From reading other reviews there seems to be more offered later in the day as far as desserts are concerned, but I won't be going back to give them a try as I'm tired of going to bakeries that think saying they are a "European-style" bakery should be a sufficient selling point. Sorry but I like to actually experience good food rather than fake old world slop. It's back to Truang Nam for croissants and the hunt continues for a good overall bakery.

    My fav bakery in town for cakes. Deb made my birthday cake - devil's food soaked in Bailey's Irish Cream with Bailey's mousse filling and a chocolate ganache on top. Absolutely amazing. The lemon tarts are also fantastic.

    I walked in for a croissant, and was utterly disappointed... It was soooo unlike a croissant. Having that bad croissant there just made me not want to try any of their other pastries.

    I am a sweets connoisseur so I know my way around a bakery. This place was fine but nothing to write home about. The treats were somewhat limited in options, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, because you won't get overwhelmed and it makes decision making easier. However, nothing jumped out at me, which was disappointing. Everything looked basic and mediocre. The girl behind the counter kind of hovered, just standing there watching me watching the treats. When I moved to the other display, she moved with me and just stood there again, and came back with me to the first case. There's a difference between being available to help you, and making you feel rushed and uncomfortable, and she was right on that line. Finally I asked for her recommendation, and she said her favorite was the cream cheese kolaches, so I went with one of those. It was fine. I didn't finish it. It was good though. They had a sign with paninis listed, and they looked good. Cute little space. She said they were going to be putting in a salad bar after mother's day, so that would be a nice addition, although I'm not sure a lot of people come here or know about it? Best of luck to them. I'd come back to try a lunch panini sometime if I was in the area.

    Since my last review, this place is always at the back of mind and my stops in this place are always too few. But when I do make the stop, I'm always happy. This morning I made my stop to get some Brötchen for breakfast (rolls) and they were, as usual, outstanding. If you've never had a European breakfast, you wouldn't know what I was talking about but if you have, it would put you in your happy place. I also picked up a scone for the boss lady who has specifically requested that if and when I go, she would like one. She too was super excited and made the comment of "thank you so much!! It was soooo good!" The key with this place though is ordering ahead. I've brought some amazing pies and roulade's to events and people go nuts on the beauty and taste. Personal favorites are the strawberry or raspberry roulade (the real whip cream is amazing) and the key lime pie(droll suddenly appears at the corner of my mouth) is awesome. They also serve up a lunch which I have never had but what is on the limited menu does sounds tasty. I'm happy to have this small gem in the neighborhood. Everything is still made without preservatives based on what people have said in earlier reviews, yes the place had issues in the early years but they seem to have gotten over them (at one point, her one employee lost both legs as innocent bystander because a driver was fleeing police). This place is as local as it gets and I'm happy to have it still around. If I could give it 6 stars I would.
